Bottom fishing in San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, is one of the most underrated fishing experiences in Los Cabos. While most anglers come to Cabo to target marlin, tuna, and dorado offshore, the inshore rocky structures near Punta Gorda and San Luis banks hold incredible populations of grouper (cabrilla), snapper, amber jacks and other bottom species.

In this trip I joined my good friend Christian, owner of a beautiful 46ft Invincible Catamaran, and we focused exclusively on deep structure fishing just a few miles off the coast of San José del Cabo.

Using live bait and heavy tackle, we worked rocky reefs and underwater ledges where predatory fish hide. The action was constant and we landed several quality bottom fish that made for an incredible day on the water.

Bottom fishing in Los Cabos is not practiced by many captains, but when conditions are right it can produce excellent grouper and snapper fishing year round.

If you're visiting Cabo San Lucas or San José del Cabo and want to experience a different type of fishing adventure, targeting bottom species over structure is a unique and exciting option.
